This is the letter I’ve been trying to write to myself for my entire life. Maybe I’m writing it to you, too. Am I? You tell me.

Dear Most Beloved, Beautiful, and Sacred,

You are more valuable than you might ever know. More people are touched by you and forever changed in extreme and positive ways than will ever tell you to your face. Things that you take for granted sometimes make people wonder at how you became so good, so true, or so capable.

Remember that next time someone tries to make you feel less magnificent than you are.

You’ve also hurt some people. Some quite badly. Your pain has sometimes overflowed and fell upon others, unfairly. How unfortunate. Lucky for you, they forgive you. Almost as important as it is that they’ve forgiven you is whether you can ever forgive yourself. Please try. The negativity you keep inside of yourself, punishing yourself for your misdeeds, is more terrible than you can know and its effects reach further down your life path than you can perceive. Be gentle with yourself.

Most importantly, you are loved.

The number one thing you strive for, the thing that roots every moment and modicum of motivation you’ve ever spent, is to be loved. In fact, you have wanted so badly to be loved even more so because of the times when you’ve found others not loving you, when you’ve found others to be unloving. You’ve carried every failure of theirs to give you all of the positive energies you deserve and you’ve stacked those faults up somewhere dusty and forgotten, waiting to get your dues, your payback.

But, listen closely, this is the most important part: no one can pay you back. No one. Not ever.

No one, in fact, can really see you at all. What they see, instead, and this is why you are so valuable, is themselves. You are such a great mirror – and thank you for that! People need to see themselves. They need you to be right where you are at, each and every day, showing them where they are at, who they have become. They need to see your progress and your growth not because they will find something there to recognize you for, but because they need to recognize themselves and remember where they have come from, how much they’ve accomplished, or how much they’ve fallen off of their path.

And, you see, that is exactly the point: it is your job to recognize your own self. It is your duty to love yourself. It is your purpose to know who you are. It is your job to see all that you do, recognize how amazing it is, and praise yourself for your fantastic successes – and there are so many!

It can be hard to remember that you are the source from which your own love and sense of accomplishment flows. This can be especially hard when those around you are bent on negativity and, even worse, when they try to pour their own fear or lack upon you. Isn’t it nice, then, that there are mirrors all around you? If you take time to look, you will see them glinting at you in the sun, sometimes from a great distance and sometimes from right by your side, where they’ve always been.

Remember, whatever you do, wherever you go,  you are loved, you are beautiful, you are sacred – no one else can make you feel or make you know these truths except for you. It is your most important task. You choose whether and how you will fulfill that task.

Choose love, ok?

With infinite care, forgiveness, and pride,
Me
