in a current of what no one saw
a little eddy of what we forgot
came a pummeling-out our inside craw
came a ripping with a taloned claw
your little memory of what once could be
stood a pounding from the power of three:
one for your body, one for mind, one for spirit, you see-
they sprung the trap with frothing laughs, in glee.
a little sorrow dug in deep over what was lost
nobody could say who was to blame or what it cost
upon our false summer, a sheen of prickled frost
all we abandoned, through a speeding window tossed
take the tonic, tincture, pill or poison of your choice
drown the piece of you suicided by your swallowed voice
no one ever prepared us for paying this price
if we could have stood, would we have paid the piper thrice?
One for our body, left to fill with artificial rot
One for our mind, made to empty of all thought
One for our soul, replacing ‘god’ with ‘bot’-
–but throw one in for ‘self’, totality forgot…
amidst a field of rubbled-ash like snow
a tiny shoot of green reminding us to grow
find the pieces of the past, into the future flow:
nothing is ever lost, if we stoke the embers of what we know
